Understanding the Legal Status of THCA
UK Regulatory Compliance, ACMD Scientific Guidelines & Botanical Tea Infusion Standards
What is THCA?
Tetrahydrocannabinolic acid (‘THCA’) is a naturally occurring, non-psychoactive cannabinoid found in raw, living hemp plants. In its raw botanical state, THCA is the acid precursor to THC. Unlike Delta-9 THC, THCA does not bind significantly to CB1 cannabinoid receptors in the human brain, meaning it does not produce intoxicating effects in its natural form.
Legal Framework Governing THCA in the United Kingdom
THCA is not individually scheduled or listed as a controlled drug under the UK Misuse of Drugs Act 1971 (‘MDA’). According to the published review by the Advisory Council on the Misuse of Drugs (‘ACMD’):
- THCA shows weak binding affinity at cannabinoid receptors and does not convert to significant amounts of controlled Delta-9 THC within the human digestive tract after oral ingestion.
- Decarboxylation occurs primarily through sustained exposure to dry temperatures exceeding 100°C. At sub-boiling water temperatures below 100°C, decarboxylation conversion is negligible.
Intended Use & Customer Responsibility
Kushte products are sold exclusively as premium herbal tea infusions and botanical novelties. Our loose-leaf flowers are to be prepared strictly in hot water below 100°C (recommended 85°C – 90°C) to prevent decarboxylation.
Kushte does not sell, promote, or endorse the smoking, combustion, or illegal misuse of our products. Customers must be 18 years of age or older to purchase from this site.
We dispatch exclusively within the United Kingdom. Information provided on this website is for educational purposes only and does not constitute formal legal or medical advice.
